for additional information.
A handheld device is a computer that fits in your hand. Thus, a
handheld is compact and lightweight giving you the ability to take it
wherever you go. Handhelds come with an LCD display that can be
monochrome or color. To navigate, you can use a stylus (pen) or your
finger to tap on the screen. And just like a desktop or laptop,
handhelds have a processor and memory.
There are several reasons why handhelds are the perfect platform for
the Suspension Assistant application - size, capabilities and price!
Small in size and price, handhelds go anywhere for instant access.
Size: The most important aspect of any handheld is its physical size. A
handheld is light and small enough to fit into your pocket giving you
the freedom to take it anywhere. Placing the Suspension Assistant
application on a handheld creates a product that can be taken to the
racetrack for on-the-spot suspension assistance.
Capabilities: Handhelds run on batteries so there is no need for
power outlets. A handheld is light and small giving you the ability to
carry it anywhere. Handhelds are great for the outdoors because they
come with screens that are usable in outdoor lighting.
Price: The handhelds selected by ResultOne to host the Suspension
Assistant application allow us to keep the product price at an
affordable level. Handhelds are inexpensive compared to laptops so
if you destroy your handheld at the track it’s not as expensive as
destroying your laptop.
You need a desktop computer system for one purpose – to initially
install the Suspension Assistant application onto the handheld device
(this is called a HotSync® operation). Re-installation is also required
if you delete or lose the Suspension Assistant application from the
handheld. For example, if the batteries run completely out, the
Suspension Assistant application will be lost. If you maintain the
handheld's batteries, it is quite possible to install the application only
once. ResultOne offers the option (free of charge) to order your
handheld with the Suspension Assistant application already installed.
If you do not have a desktop computer, you can request ResultOne to
pre-configure your handheld, free of charge. ResultOne will open the
box containing the handheld and install the application onto the device
for you. For future installations you’ll have to borrow a desktop system
or contact ResultOne.
ResultOne can reinstall the Suspension Assistant application for a
fee of $25 (plus shipping). Please contact ResultOne at
info@resultone.com or 719-531-9657 for details.
HotSync® refers to the process used to exchange information
between a desktop computer system and a handheld system. Thus,
this is the method by which the Suspension Assistant application is
installed or re-installed onto your handheld device.
ResultOne sells brand-new palmOne™ Z22 handhelds creating a
complete package for customers who prefers one-stop shopping. The
palmOne™ Z22 was chosen for its screen visibility outdoors and
price. The palmOne™ Z22 is sold for the same price you’ll find at the
palmOne™ Site, CompUSA, Target, etc.
If you prefer, you can buy the palmOne™ Z22 on sites such as Ebay or
Half.com for a reduced price depending on its condition (i.e. like new,
used, etc). The Palm m105 is another recommended system, which
can also be found on Ebay. Its price range is generally $20 to $100
(depending on the condition). The Palm m105 has been discontinued
by Palm (that’s why you can’t find it at palmOne, CompUSA, etc)
nevertheless, it makes an excellent handheld for racetrack use.
Finding a used one may work well for many customers.
ResultOne recommends the palmOne™ Z22, Palm m105, and Sony
CLIE series (look for on EBay - Sony no longer makes handhelds) not
only because they are reasonably priced, but most important because
their screens are viewable outdoors. If you decide to purchase a
handheld other than the palmOne™ Z22, m105, or Sony CLIE, make
sure it works well in outdoor lightening. Even systems in the same
family don’t always work well outdoors. For example, the Palm m125
has received poor ratings for outdoor use.
